2018 EOY Skincare Routine! (+ mini reviews)

I did it. I did my entire skincare routine post that has been pretty regular for the past few months! I take forever to do this cause look at the amount of products 🤭🤭🤭

I can never be a basic bitch. It’s just not ever gonna happen.

So, with this, I’m gonna do my final 2018 skincare routine post and share with y’all the stuff I’ve been using regularly and love, and stuff that I won’t be repurchasing.

Similar to my old routine posts, I’ll list stuff in the order I use them, the issues I target with the product, if I like/don’t like it.

I will try not to repeat too much logic behind cause everything u need to know is on beautypeadia.com > skincare ! I’ve categorized different skintypes, reasoning behind waiting time, layering techniques etc. so if you’re unsure, u can head over there to read up first!

My skin was dehydrated-combi and I’ve corrected it to normal for a while but since early this year, I find that my skin gets dry easier. It’s no longer as oily as it used to be.

The products I use mainly target hydration and brightening, and moisturizing in the night (cause I sleep in aircon!). Since I use acids too, I try to make sure my products helps to calm and reduce sensitivity!

If you need help with layering or to understand what comes first, I have a post on it here.

Vit C > BHA > AHA is the way you should be applying your acids with 20-30 mins waiting time, IF u use all of them but this is not smth I advise. U can use different acids on different areas and this will lessen time and reduce sensitivity.

A more in-depth post on acids can be found here.

☀️: I use Vit C on cheeks and forehead to brighten/soften skin and BHA on nose
🌙: I use PHA on nose and once a week, I use AHA on my cheeks/forehead

I’m trying to reduce using acids on such regular basis so my skin won’t sensitize to it since my skin is fine now and don’t have much issues. I also went for monthly Q-switch laser which helped with congestion and clogged pores issues!

I do increase the use nearing my period when my skin goes awry and gets clogged more. So again, it’s not a fixed routine but a mix-and-match, depending on what my skin feels like.

The acids I have on regular rotation!

Remember, acids and actives are the one that SOLVE problems. They can actively help with pigmentation, blemishes and fine lines. These issues cannot be solved with sedums, moisturizers etc. All those can only help prevent but not cure.

☀️: Melano CC on my cheeks/forehead and Skinceuticals Blemish + Age on my nose/chin

🌙: If I have active cystic acne before my period, I use Uriage K18 (BHA + AHA) on it but if my skin is behaving on regular days, I just use CNP Peeling Boost (PHA) on my nose and chin! Once a week, if I wanna re-boost my skin, I use Sunday Riley’s Good Genes on my entire face cause it’s a decent strong AHA. Good Genes is not a serum ok pls. Don’t use it as that.

I include a MINIMUM of 15 mins waiting time for my acids just cause I want to maximize the efficacy. Acids are all pH-based and if u later everything on without a waiting time, it’s no different than not applying at all. All the pH is messed up and you just wasted ur product lah. It won’t work properly anymore cause pH dependent products will only work within that window of time and then as your skin regulates its pH back, it will stop working. So make use of that window of time!

First Essence/Hydrating Toner

One of my favourite steps actually!! If done correctly, this step can prevent some basic skin issues like dehydration which will lead to overproduction of oil and then clogged pores etc. etc.

I believe all skin types can benefit with layering of toner, and when I say layering, I do mean 2-4 layers. A dry sponge won’t be able to absorb a heavy cream on top easily and it will just sit on top but a damp sponge will be able to! It’s basically that theory that got to me haha

Let ur skin drink water before u apply heavier products with more viscosity like a moisturizer etc. so the moisturizer can be absorbed better instead of just sitting on top of ur skin and still feeling dry beneath.

First Essences are basically hydrating toners on steroids and has brightening effects! They can be applied in interchanging order with hydrating toners, depending on consistency.

☀️: 2 layers of Biotherm Life Plankton Clear Essence + 2 layers of Mamonde Rose Water Toner OR Innisfree Green Tea Seed Skin
🌙: 2 layers of Mamonde Rose Water Toner OR Innisfree Green Tea Seed Skin + 2 layers of Estée Lauder Micro essence

In the day, right before I use my Melano CC (Vit C), I use the Melano CC Brightening Lotion cause I find that it helps my skin absorb the Vit C better!

In the night, if I am not using any acids on my cheeks/forehead, then I use the Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect First Serum first. This is like a light exfoliating pH-balancing toner lol. It just hydrates my skin instantly and preps it for product absorption.

An ampoule is meant to be smth that’s super concentrated and u only need a drop or two whilst a serum is...a serum lah.

A serum has ingredients that are beneficial to skin (like propolis, hyaluronic acid etc.) and while these don’t solve problems, they help to prevent and prevention is always better than cure lah. There’s a million serums out there so u can basically pick what u want to prevent skin issues? For me, I go for anti-aging and brightening products.

A lot of serums have multi-benefits nowadays and e.g., if have breakouts often and are also worried about scarring, can pick those that has anti-bacterial and brightening properties like propolis.

I’m very excessive and I think serums are quite fun to play around with so I own...a ton. Fml. Everything I also own a ton lah wtf letz be real here

In general, one of my fskincare ingredient is Propolis. It never fails to brighten my skin and it doesn’t hurt that it has a ton of other beneficial properties too.

All the above serums, aside from the Innisfree one, is bought with my own money. Most of the products I use are half given, half bought so actually, I buy a lot of shit LOL

I have serums for day and night cause my skin tends to get drier at night since air-con in my room ah. In the day, I prefer smth lighter with more hydration. I don’t use all of them at once ah lol. I just use 1-2 depending on how my skin feels and I choose accordingly. If I feel like my skin is dull that morning, I would use the Yuja one or honey or both lol. Depends ahhhh.

• Skinfood Yuja Water Whitening Ampoule
• Skinfood Royal Honey Propolis Enrich Essence
• Skinfood Aqua Grape Bounce Bubble Serum
• Etude House Pink Vital Water Serum

• Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair II (I mix this with a few drops of the Microessence)
• Skinfood Royal Honey Propolis Enrich Essence
• Loccitane Immortal Reset Oil-In-Serum
• Innisfree Jeju Orchid Enrich Essence

• LGH Vita Propolis Ampoule
• Pure Heals Propolis 90 Ampoule

I like to add 1-2 drops of the above ampoules into whatever serum I’m using cause I freaking love Propolis lol

Also, let me do some short reviews since I’m doing this anyw!

I bought this cause of ALL the raving reviews I’ve read and....eh......I am not liking it. I’ve been using it straight for 2 weeks so far, and I don’t know what are people raving about. Like the first 10 ingredients are basic af and can be found easily from most basic skincare.

The supposedly wowing essential oils are not wowing me at all and will not ‘reawaken your skin’ lah wtf I call BS.

It’s an ok serum if u have dry skin and it should moisturize ur face suitably but that’s really about it and so far, that’s all it does. Moisturize my skin and a lot of other products can do that without the price tag.

If you ask me, this is a way better moisturizing serum! The 6th ingredient onwards are great for maintaining skin and help to prevent aging. Price point also better. It’s lightweight but moisturizes really well still. It gives me a nice bright glow after using. I have been using this nightly for a month so far and i will repurchase this!

I got this as a sample and as I mentioned, I never really thought Etude house products will work cause abit too cute lol but hey, this is actually not too bad. This has peach bud extract which is known for its humectant properties and I like that it has squalene as well. My skin loves squalene! It has this slight brightening effect and hydration properties so I really like using this in the day.

For the rest of the serums, I have reviewed them before so you probably can find the reviews here.

Lol idk how this happened. I don’t even really need so many but it’s part of trying/testing products right hahaha #excuses

• Biotherm Aqua Source Gel
• Mamonde Rose Water Gel Cream
• Loreal Age Perfect Peony Lumiere

• Herbivore Botanical Pink Cloud Moisturizer
• Fresh Lotus Youth Face Cream
• Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream
• A’Pieu Madecassoside Hydrating Cream

I have been going back to oils cause they really help with my dryness and helps to hold moisture in; especially at night. I use it during the day too and no, it hasn’t made me oilier! Just the opposite, in fact.

• NUXE Multipurpose Face/Body Dry Oil
• La Mer Renewal Oil
• Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Oil

I got sucked into buying this cause 1. It’s pink 2. It smells amazing 3. It’s pink LOL. The texture for this is really light and it has slight brightening effects so I use it mostly in the day! It does a decent job moisturizing so no complaints there! It’s glass and I get damn scared that I’ll drop it accidentally one day.

Dis is pink too. Lol??? What’s my damn issue. Btw this STINKS. I absolutely had the smell of this. I know this texture is supposed to be kinda whipped like clouds but no the texture is damn weird. It works fine??? But I legit don’t get the hype. I feel like it’s a branded moisturizer. Like pay for brand yknow.

I bought this along with the serum (which I hate) but this is decent! If my skin is irritated (redness, dry or wtv), this actually does a pretty decent job calming it down. The blue comes from the ingredient - Guaiazulene, a skin-calming agent extracted from camomile oil. It also has Centella, which hydrates skin and relieves irritation. If u have light eczema on ur face, this is quite decent to try!

A’Pieu hasn’t disappoint me so far and I got this cause it has really great reviews and one of their recommended intro-to-the-brand product. The first ingredient is Centella Asiatica Leaf Water instead of water, and the rest of the ingredients are pretty clean. Centella repairs and healing properties! I LOVE the tube packaging tbh - I thought it was rather cute and made it stand out from my shelf.

This was one of my go-to after my Fractional CO2 laser (I’m gonna do a post on that after I hit my 2-week mark and some tips on post-laser recovery!) and if/when my skin is irritated. The scent is quite herbal-y, abit like tea tree oil. I am gonna repurchase this for sure and sucks that I have to go JB for it. We need more brands in Sg!

I’ve finished half a bottle of this just cause I’ve committed but this is so not worth the price tag. It’s just not. It did nothing for me and I didn’t like it at all.

This used to be easily available in Watsons but seems like they pull the brand off the shelves in Sg? I’m slightly panicking and I’m gonna see if Shopee has it cause I’m running low and this is my all-time HG face oil. I’ve finished like, 2 bottles!

I’ve compared the nuxe and lamer one before on my site and I still stick to my opinions. The nuxe one is amazing and keeps my dry skin very happy. It also gives me a glow and doesn’t irritate me in any wa
